“Girly girly” gatherings

Posted by: multiculturalwannabe on: November 19, 2008

By the term “girly girly” I mean a way that many girls may speak to each other, and I can’t explain what it is. It’s just there.

Yesterday I was at a pre-party or a gathering at one of my classmate’s home, and it was nice and everything. We had interesting things to discuss also, but there is something with sitting with more than five people that I find little bit difficult:

1. It’s difficult to make oneself heard if one is not a “dominant” (not in a bad way, but someone who is not so quiet like me) person (or maybe drunk).

2. I’m not used to the way that many girls who are not close friends, are speaking to each other. It’s about which kind of voice one should have and the way one should express oneself.

I’m not used to it. Sometimes I think it’s easier to talk to male classmates (who are not my close friends) – because I don’t have to have another voice, it’s more natural and not “girly”. But I guess I’m always pretending. Everyone is.

I’m not pretending to be someone else when I’m with my female friends either, but it’s because I know them.
It depends on the personalities also and everyone is not speaking in the same way, but there is a specific way that many girls talk to each other, and especially if they are not close friends. It depends on who they are, some are more or less “girly girly”.

Well… I’m not “girly girly” such as I know a lot about make up and specific tv-serials either, but that’s another thing. Maybe there is no such thing as “girly”. I meant the way may girls are expressing them selves, the body language, the voices, everything, and I can’t explain how they do it. But that way of speaking and behaving is just not me.

And by the way I have realized that I’m not that liberal. I am when I’m discussing with people who want all women to wear veil or not work together with males. Then I may sound liberal, but when it comes to topics such as children wearing “sexy” clothes, prostitution, and even stripteasing, I’m not liberal. I just think it’s sad  that people becomes like an object who is just seen as a body and not a human being. Am I too conservative now? By the way I may not at all be conservative, it’s maybe something that I once was and now are sticking to and want to be…
